Wonderful job on Max's web site, I really love it. Thank you so much for sending it along. I think the pictures bring his life-long, top notch work into perspective. The writing is interesting, stories great. Through it all one travels with Max. The web site lets one see the whole working picture of Max. The site is so clear and easy to enjoy, me being a non-computer person, I found it so easy to navigate and just really thought you did a great job truly worthy of Max's music life and I thank you for it. One of the first times I heard Max play was in an old jazz club in Hermosa Beach called the "Lighthouse". It was after hours and several musicians from the "Tonight Show Band" would regularly meet there, drink a little, play a lot and tell stories. The man who raised me, Mel Leven, wrote for Disneyland at the time and was doing a project with Buddy Rich and Conrad Gonzo. I can say Max made me fall in love. I was a young girl and he was a very handsome man but what I fell in love with was his playing and the bass. Since then I've heard him play many a time and each and every one has been a gift. His style, his grace, his fire, always a joy and always enjoyed. So a huge thank you to Max and to you Rick for this wonderful web site. I'm so happy to learn new information along with albums I'd missed and to revisit albums I'd forgotten how much I loved... To this day, as you know Rick, I'm a bass lover.
Hi Max! What a new fabulous new website. The information is just what I have been after for a long time now! This has whet my appetite for your complete biography, that I know you are working on. I am impatient for that. Thanks particularly for the information on your LA Express years, and the photos of yourself with that wonderful Fender Precision of yours. Indeed the LA Express and Tom Cat albums remain my 2 favorite albums of all time, and a musical reference for me. Being lucky enough to have the songbook also; playing bass with those albums has helped me develop my own style and read music too! A million thanks for all the pleasure you give others. Take care Max, Tom
Thank you Max for 50 years and more of pleasure that you have brought to my life ... I think the only time I ever have seen you live was with Peggy Lee during a visit to the US, but I doubt that I have ever gone more than a month in 50 years without listening to you on some album! Thank you also for bringing so much of it together on this impressive website. Gordon ( in England)
