Hi Max. I Am Bob Ballards Brother in Law And It Was Nice to meet you at the show in Oskaloosa Ia Last Night.I had a really good time and enjoyed your music.
So nice to meet you last night at the Cellar in San Clemente - your a fascinating man !!
Max. This is just a note to say how much I enjoy your playing on the "Hissing of Summer Lawns" recording. It was inspirational playing that back in the 70's set the bench mark for my own aspirations as a player about as high as it could get. Not a note more than necessary and absolute perfect taste in every phrase. Magnificent work. Thank you for the many years of listening enjoyment. Dave
Hello Max, Curious if you might remember my father, Don Huston, from your time at the University of Iowa? He mentioned a few times over the years of having some acquaintance with you at UI, often prompted by a Kenton album playing in the background! Today, I've been prompted by a Joni Mitchell album you're credited on, to try and connect. I've frequently noticed your name on assorted LPs and congratulate you on a wonderful and impressive career in music. Dad passed in 2002. Any clarity you might be able to provide on the UI relationship would be appreciated. Thanks, Jeff Huston
Hi Max, I hope you are doing great! Have a wonderful Christmas and the best New Year ever. -Bill
Max: In the fall of 1976 you were kind enough to give me bass instruction at your house in Burbank after I traveled from Maine to California and called you every day for about a month while you were recording an LA Express record and soon to be touring with Joni Mitchell. You were very insightful in your teaching and very kind to me. You told me that I "had it" and to keep playing something until it feels good. The brief time that I got to spend with you and your encouragement fueled me for many years both in and outside of music. God bless you.
Max, I too was heavily influenced by your bass groove & John Guerin's drum groove. What an education for any musician to watch & hear you two playing. So sad that he passed away. I enjoyed the shows at the Baked Potato & the Roxy. One time when me and my wife were in San Diego @ Humphreys we got to see you play with your band. I called you about two years ago and you were nice enough to talk on the phone with me for about 30-45 minutes. You & John were/are two of my heroes. Don
